The hotel was placed within 15 km of the airport. Got tasty breakfasts with pastries and yoghurt, for instance.

It is very centrally located with a wonderful view of Arthurs seat. We quite liked the idea of it being situated within a university complex with lots of friendly students out and about. What impresses one immediately is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff who went out of their way to facilitate an enjoyable stay. The room was very comfortable and kitted out to a reasonably high standard. Although we didn't get up for breakfast we noted that the breakfast room was quite large ,bright and airy with comfortable seats. Overall, we had an excellent stay and would highly recommend this hotel for comfort, central location , friendly faces, cheap hotel rate and the opportunity to have lunch in the gardens of 'Salisbury House' restaurant /pub, across the road from the hotel (decor beautiful and excellent food).... Absolutely no doubt that we shall be booking this hotel again on our next visit to Edinburgh.
If there was one small criticism one could make, it would be that it is was not apparent from the on line information about the hotel that each room occupant has to pay £5 per night for internet access!

It was within walking distance of the centre of Edinburgh and all the sights. It also had on premise parking for free which is a good thing in Edinburgh.
Masson House is part of the University Halls of Residence. The breakfast room is in a different building on the University campus. The large canteen (for all the people staying on the campus, not just at Masson House) was loud, with lots of people and it was rather hectic.

It is not a hotel !!!! It is student university accommodation. Not as good as Edinbugh backpackers re location and comfort. We were misled and actually thought we would be getting Scotish b&b but ended up in student accpommodation with a cafeteria full of over 200 students .. Yuck! And certainly not value for money.Booking, com should research better. I really feel misled and would like an expalination! I paid over $200 to tsay in student accommodation. Backpackers owould have been better and it has a beeter location!

The hotel is fairly clean, the staff are very kind and polite and location is favourable! The breakfast is super, the room is extremely spacious and cheap with excellent blackout curtains.

Location
The shower is seperated in bathroom only by a shower curtain that did not reach the floor, thus 90% of the bathroom floor was wet--puddled in water-- after a shower, which caused the guest to mop up afer each shower with a towel.

The Scholar's charming Victorian decor and cozy atmosphere, and the staff were attentive. I found the area easy to navigate, and the quiet surroundings offered a peaceful retreat after a day of exploring.
More senior-friendly amenities would be beneficial.

The rooms are stocked and nicely updated, equipped with climate control and coffee/tea making facilities. The setting is comfortable and easy, just off the greenery the photos suggest, both the Masson House and the Salisbury Green and everything, cooked or fresh, nice quiet area.
